If you’ve seen someone with a huge smile on his face driving around campus or directing traffic, chances are you’ve seen the man who prides himself in asking everyone the question, “how can I help you?”
Who is the person behind this smiling face?
None other than our beloved certified parking patrol officer, Chuck Kalb.
Sitting in his golf cart in the main parking lot on a hot September morning, Kalb graciously responded to a question and answer session with the news staff.
Q: How long have you been working at LTHS, and what made you decide to work here?
A: “I started working for Lake Travis High School in 2017 when I retired. My wife was here at the time and was instrumental in getting me an interview with the assistant principal.”
Q: What did you do before working here?
A: “I was the regional sales manager for Rolex Watch. It was a lot of traveling, and I was based out of Atlanta, Georgia, covering all of the Southeast United States.”
Q: Did your children attend LTHS?
A: “I’ve got four kids (two girls and two boys), and the very last girl wound up graduating from LTHS in 2016.”
Q: Do you have a favorite sport on campus?
A: “Football and Tennis. I enjoyed playing tennis for fun. I was playing tennis for the state championship in Lakeway.”
Q. What is your memorable or unusual interaction you’ve had with a student or staff member?
A. “Boy, there’s been so many good and bad, but I remember the good ones primarily because I’m so impressed, and I’ve always been so impressed with the students here at Lake Travis High School.”
Q. How has construction changed LT traffic?
A. “It really reduced the amount of traffic. They reduced the parking spaces so as a result, there’s only so many cars that we can park on campus day in and day out. We lost a lot of parking spaces, we were able to accommodate this most of the same.”
Q. If you could tell the student body one thing, what would it be?
A. “I think the thing that I would encourage them to do is to do their best in school, even though sometimes it’s hard and difficult. What you do in these four years here at Lake Travis High School has a tremendous effect on the rest of your future.”
Kalb wishes to part with these guiding words: “be humble and to treat others as you would want to be treated yourself.” Kalb is an inspiring individual who is important to recognize for all the hard work he does as well as his outlook on life. On behalf of the Lake Travis student body, we thank you Chuck Kalb for all you have done (and keep doing) for us.
