Cav Nation made its 2023 season debut at Cavalier Stadium on Friday, October 25th, against the Arlington-Martin Warriors, and the heat wave tormenting our state wasn’t the only thing making fans sweat. In what turned out to be a nail-biter of a game, the Cavs ultimately ended up on top of the Warriors with a final score of 13-6 and avoided being shut out by the Warriors for the first time since 2002.
“It’s always good to start out hot, to get the momentum rolling,” said outside linebacker Easton Aird. And start out hot; they did.
Though penalties on both sides plagued the game, both teams were good on defense. The Cavs managed to overpower Arlington and scored all of their 13 points in the fourth and final quarter. The game’s last touchdown resulted from a perfect pass from quarterback Kadyn Leon to receiver Seth Galbraith with just 46 seconds left.
“The sky’s the limit [for the team],” said Coach RJ Gomez when asked about the coach’s message to players. “Take it one day at a time.”
Players and coaches alike are eager to get back to practicing and improving their skills this week in preparation for what appears to be a tremendous season for the Cavs. A main goal for the coaches is to get every player to “buy into what they’re capable of doing,” said Coach Ryan Luedecke. “Because a lot of times it’s more than what they think they can [do].”
The Cavaliers will face Cibolo Steele next Friday in Cavalier Stadium.
