What does a little history and a lot of competition equal? If you guessed rivalry, you’re right. One of the best examples of this was seen on Friday night at Cav Stadium when Cav Nation faced their long-time rival, the Westlake Chapparrals.
The game began with the Chaps scoring a touchdown through a quarterback scramble within four minutes of kick-off. But LT retaliated with their own touchdown scored by running back Nico Hamilton, and the extra point made by kicker Braydon Doane, leaving the game tied 7-7.
In the second quarter, Westlake executed a 29-yard field goal, bringing the score to 7-10 before scoring once more and leaving LT reeling with an unfortunate 7-20. LT wasn’t done just yet, though, and fired back with a final converted touchdown from tight-end Josiah Thomas, bringing the Cavs within one touchdown of a victory at 14-20.
Ultimately, the Cavs were not able to overcome the Chapparrals, but the team remains positive despite the loss. “This was a tough loss, but we’re gonna bounce back,” said Robby Belmarez, long snapper for LT. “It’s all about how we move on from here and put in the work next week.” Last year, Westlake beat the Cavs 35-20, making this game a tremendous improvement for the team.
Belmarez also highlighted the team’s strength stating, “We’ve got a lot of mentally strong guys. We’re gonna stay strong, come back next week. We’re gonna be just fine.”
And we, of course, believe in our Cav Nation.
Next up for the Cavs? Del Valle on October 6th.
