The DECA chapter of Lake Travis High School had an impressive performance at the International Career Development Conference (ICDC) in Atlanta, Georgia. Competing against top students from around the world, DECA trains students for careers in fields such as marketing, finance, hospitality, and management.
ICDC is the highest level of competition, with more than 25,000 students from across the globe attending. Besides competitions, students engaged in college and career exhibits, along with pin trading. The latter has been a longstanding tradition that encourages networking with students from all across the world. Some pins at this year’s ICDC went for as high as $200.
Several Lake Travis students earned top placements in their events. Victor Zhou and Ron Kim secured 6th place in the Virtual Business Challenge Personal Finance (VBCPF). In the highly competitive Virtual Business Challenge Restaurant (VBCR) event, the team of Cody Chang, Pedro Alvarez-Gutierrez, and Srihari Kadathur placed 7th overall.
In non-virtual events, Vandit Rikhi represented the chapter well, earning 8th place in Personal Financial Literacy (PFL), a roleplay event with more than 200 competitors at the international level. In addition, Aditya Rai distinguished himself as a top 10 tester in the Travel and Tourism Team Decision Making (TDM) event.
In total, seven Lake Travis students had the honor of being shown on the Mercedes-Benz Stadium as they walked the winning stage. The chapter’s strong showing at ICDC reflects the talent of Lake Travis High School and its DECA program.
